Man accused of escaping custody, breaching bail remanded in court
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man accused of fleeing police custody after escaping from a Transport Authority vehicle was remanded when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
Dwain Brown is charged with escaping police custody and breaching bail conditions.
Allegations are that a team of policemen working with Transport Authority personnel were conducting operations along South Odeon Avenue when they stopped a vehicle driven by Brown, who reportedly refused to cooperate.
The lawmen requested his driver’s licence, but he was unable to provide a physical copy and instead showed a digital version on an electronic device.
Brown allegedly told officers he was on his way to report in keeping with his bail conditions at the Hunts Bay Police Station. However, further checks revealed he had violated those conditions by operating a public passenger vehicle.
He was then placed in a Transport Authority bus with three other individuals, but reportedly escaped, prompting a police chase.
Authorities later found Brown hiding in the female restroom of a KFC restaurant. Upon being apprehended, he reportedly said: “Officer mi know mi f*** up, but mi have mi children them weh mi a think about.”
He was subsequently charged.
Brown is set to return to court on May 7, 2026 for a case management hearing, at which time he is expected to settle his legal representation.
