KINGSTON, Jamaica — Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) Governor Richard Byles will open the virtual Caribbean Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Summit on Tuesday as the two-day event gets underway.

Byles’ presentation will provide macroeconomic insight into regional monetary stability, financial leadership and policy modernisation. He is one of the two keynote speakers for the event, with World Bank Group Vice President Dr Samuel Munzele Maimbo being the other main speaker.

The Caribbean CFO Summit is the first major conference organised by Signature Creed & Associates which is run by partners Kevon McIntosh and Denzil Whyte. While the event is geared towards the chief financial officer role, it encompasses the gamut of finance with speakers from insurance, investment banking, microfinance, law and economics.

“The role of the CFO is no longer confined to reporting and compliance”, said McIntosh.

He added, “Today’s finance leader must shape strategy, manage risk, harness technology, and preserve enterprise value. This summit is designed to equip leaders across the Caribbean to do exactly that.”

The event comes at a time as Jamaica continues to learn from the recent experience with Hurricane Melissa which has transformed the financial landscape. While the country has benefited from international relief, it has also received diverse perspectives across the region as the recovery process continues.

“Hurricane Melissa is symbolic, in my opinion, of tragedies or challenges that companies [and] countries may face. But ultimately, it comes down to an assessment of risks and coming up with strategies to activate mitigation of those risks,” said Whyte.

The event will be hosted by Kalilah Reynolds with McIntosh, Gavin N Bennett and Renate McDonald being moderators. The two-day event allows professionals to rack up to 13 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) hours for their relevant designations.
