Howell’s second brace helps Mt Pleasant beat Portmore 4-1

KINGSTON, Jamaica — National Under-20 striker Jabari Howell scored a second consecutive brace to lead Mt Pleasant FA to a big 4-1 hammering of Portmore United in their Jamaica Premier League third-round game played at Drax Hall on Monday evening.

The win took Mt Pleasant FA into second place in the points tables, on goal-difference over Racing United, both teams on 52 points but Mt Pleasant FA has two games in hand.

Despite their first ever loss to Chapelton Maroons, 3-1 on Sunday, Montego Bay United leads with 57 points while Portmore United are in fourth place on 48 points, two more than Waterhouse FC who came from a goal down to beat Cavalier SC who slipped into sixth place on 42 points.

At the foot of the tables Harbour View are out of the relegation places after edging Arnett Gardens 1-0 on Sunday and moved to 27 points, two more than Molynes United who joined Spanish Town Police in the drop zone.

On Monday, Howell opened the scoring with a sublime free kick from 23 yards out that beat Portmore United’s goalkeeper Daniel Russell high to his right in the 50th minute.

Howell added a second three minutes later to take his tally of goals in two games to four.

Devonte Campbell, who replaced Alex Marshall in the 66th minute, made the score 3-0 when he fired low and hard past Russell in the 75th minute, then set up Raheem Edwards for the fourth goal two minutes later.

Former Reggae Boy Corey Burke, who last played for Portmore United in the 2019 season, came off the bench in the 70th minute to score a consolation for Portmore United in time added on.

In the first game of the double header, Treasure Beach FC and Spanish Town Police ended in a 0-0 draw.

Results:

Chapelton Maroons-3, Montego Bay United-1

Racing United-0, Tivoli Gardens-0

Dunbeholden FC-1, Molynes United-0

Waterhouse FC-2, Cavalier SC-1

Arnett Gardens-0, Harbour View-2

Spanish Town Police FC-0, Treasure Beach FC-0

Mount Pleasant FA-4, Portmore United-1
