#Champs2026: Hydel’s Zavien Bernard leads girls Class 2 long jump

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Hydel High’s Zavien Bernard, last year’s silver medallist, leads the qualifying for the Class 2 girls long jump after posting a 5.64m (1.3m/s) on Tuesday’s opening day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

After fouling her first attempt, Bernard produced the biggest jump of the round, surpassing the automatic qualifying mark of 5.55m.

Campion College’s Stefvanco Henry was next best with 5.59m (1.3m/s), followed by Edwin Allen’s Karee Tape—5.51m (1.m/s) and Rajana Price of Convent of Mercy Alpha Academy— 5.47m (0.6m/s).

COCAA Western Champs triple gold medallist Malia Housen of Mt Alvernia High is also through with 5.28m (1.6m/s) along with Ashley Barrett of Immaculate Conception and the Vere Technical pair of Xiah Tobias and Jenoya Mesquito.
