#Champs2026: Munro’s Smith and Calabar’s Kennedy to continue throws rivalry
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Munro College’s Javonte Smith and Calabar High’s Kamari Kennedy have renewed their rivalry in the Boys Class 1 shot put after they finished first and second in Class 2 last year.
Smith threw 17.55m to lead the qualifying on Friday’s fourth day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the national stadium while Kennedy was fifth best with 16.53m.
Kingston College’s Nkosana Johnson, the number one ranked thrower coming into the championships is expected to be in the race for the medals after he qualified with 17.40m.
Meanwhile, Adrian Daley of St Catherine High, the bronze medal winner in Class 2 last year did not advance after he finished 14th with 14.51m.
