Baby shot and killed during home invasion in Trinidad
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Trinidadian police are investigating the murders of two people, including an 11-month-old baby, after a gunman invaded a family home in St James, on the outskirts of Port of Spain, early Tuesday morning.
The police said they have no motive as yet for the murders of baby Jaden and his 25-year-old father, Joseph Sutton.
Media reports said that the family members were asleep when the gunmen stormed the house, firing shots indiscriminately and that the father sought to protect the baby from the hail of bullets.
Both were taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where they were both pronounced dead.
As of March 16, Trinidad and Tobago, which is under a state of emergency, has recorded 75 murders, with gun violence accounting for the majority of the deaths. At least 60 victims have been shot, including nine women.
