KSAMC moves to enforcement phase following close of signage regularisation campaign
KINGSTON, Jamaica— The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) has announced the transition into the enforcement phase of its signage compliance efforts, following the close of its signage regularisation campaign on March 31.
The campaign, which ran from January to March 2026, provided a defined opportunity for entities with publicly visible signage to regularise approvals and settle outstanding fees before enforcement measures intensified.
With the conclusion of this period, KSAMC is now preparing to take action against illegally installed and non-compliant signage across Kingston and St Andrew.
Chief executive officer Robert Hill confirmed that the corporation has mobilised the necessary resources to support enforcement activities.
“We are going to start cutting down illegally placed and non-compliant signs across Kingston and St Andrew,” Hill stated.
He noted that KSAMC’s compliance teams have been actively engaging businesses over the past months, collecting data and conducting assessments to inform the next phase of action.
“We are awaiting the final data from our compliance teams, which will guide targeted enforcement and the removal of signage from non-compliant entities,” he added.
The enforcement effort will be supported by heavy-duty trucks and specialised equipment, enabling the safe and efficient removal of unauthorised signage from public spaces.
KSAMC emphasised that signage regulation is a legal requirement and applies to all signs displayed in public view, whether located on public or private property, and regardless of whether the entity is commercial, institutional, or non-profit.
The corporation reiterated that the regularisation campaign was designed to provide a fair and transparent pathway to compliance, supported by public sensitisation, direct engagement, and a temporary concession on outstanding signage fees.
Entities that did not take advantage of the campaign are now urged to engage immediately with KSAMC, as enforcement actions will proceed in accordance with the law.
The enforcement phase forms part of KSAMC’s broader commitment to improving public safety, reducing visual clutter, protecting sightlines, and maintaining an orderly urban environment across Kingston and St Andrew.
