Jamaican man charged in fatal shooting of his wife in Florida
A Jamaican man has been charged in connection with the death of his wife, Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen, who authorities say was shot three times with a shotgun inside their Florida home.
According to the Miami Herald, Metayer Bowen’s body was found on Wednesday in the couple’s second-floor primary bedroom, wrapped in blankets. Her body was found by cops from the Coral Springs Police Department who were conducting a welfare check after she failed to appear at a scheduled 9:00 am commission meeting.
Investigators allege that her husband, Stephen Bowen, carried out the shooting the previous night, using a shotgun, and then slept downstairs after the incident.
The report said Bowen visited his uncle’s home on Wednesday morning, where he allegedly confessed to the killing. When asked about his motive, he reportedly said he “couldn’t take it anymore”, a statement later cited in the arrest affidavit.
Bowen has since been taken into custody and is currently being held at the Broward County Main Jail. He faces charges of premeditated murder and tampering with physical evidence, and remains behind bars without bond following a court appearance on Thursday.
