Police injured, Manchester’s most wanted man killed in Trelawny
TRELAWNY, Jamaica— Police are reporting that Manchester’s most wanted man, Oral Cole, was fatally shot during a shootout in south Trelawny on Thursday.
Senior police sources say a policeman was saved by his bulletproof vest during the shootout. He was taken to hospital for a medical examination.
Preliminary reports are that Cole confronted the police midafternoon in the Ulster Spring to Albert Town area, and a shootout ensued. Police said Cole was taken to hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.
Cole was one of eight inmates who had escaped from the Black River police station lockup in June 2023. Since then, the Manchester police listed him as both a person of interest and wanted in connection with several crimes, including murders and shootings.
