Ky-Mani Marley, Colombian artiste Kapla collaborate on joint EP
Reggae artiste and actor Ky-Mani Marley and Colombian reggaeton artiste Kapla have teamed up for a collaborative EP, which is being produced by American award-winning Billboard charting producer Bryan “BL Tha Hook Slaya” La Montague.
The project, which is still untitled, is scheduled to be released around September.
BL Tha Hook Slaya, in an interview with Observer Online on Monday, shared how the idea for the collaborative project came about.
“I really felt that because of Ky-Mani’s natural ability to be diverse coupled with mine, it really made it a simple process, because Kapla is also extremely diverse musically,” said BL Tha Hook Slaya, who resides between Jamaica and Boston.
The project will feature five tracks, and production took about a year to be completed.
“We haven’t nailed down a title as yet, but we will be releasing about three singles between late spring and summer, so we are thinking of a September release for the EP,” BL Tha Hook Slaya disclosed.
BL Tha Hook Slaya has worked with several Jamaican acts over the years including Spice, Capleton, Charly Black, Sizzla, Beenie Man, Elephant Man, Gyptian, Jahvillani, Jah Thunder, Morgan Heritage, Red Rat, Julian Marley and Junior Reid among others.
The producer shared what it was like working with Marley on the project.
“So I have had the pleasure of working with multiple members of the Marley family, which has been an honour obviously, but I have to say that Ky-Mani has a voice that is unmatched in my opinion, due to the natural inflections in his voice that can’t be taught, coupled with his unique vibrato and overall tone. But it was an extremely fun project, and the vibe was spectacular throughout the entire process.”
For Kapla, collaborating with Ky-Mani was a dream come true.
“Collaborating with Kimani Marley isn’t just a dream, it’s a dream realised. But for me, it goes beyond that. It’s about merging cultures, stepping into something new and creating with the son of a legend like Bob Marley—someone who has inspired not just me, but generations of artistes,” said Kapla.
This is his first collaboration with a reggae artiste.
