Jamaican TT players Azizi Johnson and Gianna Lewis qualify for CAC Games in Dom Rep
KINGSTON, Jamaica — National table tennis players, 18-year-old Azizi Johnson and 21-year-old Gianna Lewis have secured spots for the singles events at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in the Dominican Republic.
According to the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA), Johnson and Lewis have committed themselves fully to training, backed by the daily grind of practice, tactical refinement, and competitive readiness. Their performances at the qualifiers showcased not only skill but also the joy of wearing Jamaica’s colors on the regional stage, the JTTA said in a release.
Supporting them on this journey are national head coach Dale Parham and assistant national coach Colin McNeish. Their steady guidance, sharp technical direction, and personal investment in the athletes have helped shape two strong competitors ready to take on the CAC challenge, the release stated.
The teams also include rising male athletes Brian Blake and Gmarco Smith, as well as Karecia Peterkin and Nevaeh Scott. Each member has contributed to a strong, united squad, demonstrating commitment and teamwork that strengthens Jamaica’s presence at the CAC Games, according to the JTTA.
JTTA President Ingrid Graham noted, “Seeing Azizi and Gianna earn their places at the CAC Games fills us with immense pride. This achievement is a tribute to their devotion and the deep commitment of our coaching team.
“Colin McNeish and Dale Parham have been steadfast in their roles, offering more than direction. They have given belief, strategy, and confidence to these young athletes. The qualification of Azizi and Gianna is a reflection of a system that honours effort, care, and connection to our sport,” the JTTA said.
Aubyn Henry, chief strategy development officer of the JTTA, shared similar sentiments about this accomplishment, citing that it is a positive indication of the sports in Jamaica.
“Qualifying for a major regional competition is never simple. It’s the result of patience, preparation, and unwavering focus. Azizi and Gianna have shown a readiness to embrace challenges with poise and enthusiasm. What we are cultivating within the JTTA is a culture where every athlete can step onto bigger stages feeling capable and valued,” he said.
