Machel Montano promises aerobics class performance at WiFete
Trinidadian soca artiste Machel Montano, who recently won his 12th Road March title, is promising patrons an aerobics class performance at this Saturday’s WiFete, which takes place in New Kingston from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am.
The event, which is positioned as the only true soca-meets-dancehall concert for the Carnival season in Jamaica, will also feature performances by dancehall rookie Skippa and Trinidadian soca artiste Voice.
“Well, it’s going to be a whole sort of energy, like an aerobics class with hit after hit. I’m bringing my dancers and I am excited to be in Jamaica,” Montano told the Jamaica Observer on the weekend.
The artiste, known for hits such as Soca Kingdom, Pardy, Big Phat Fish, Torro Torro, and
Fast Wine, recalled performing at the first WiFete three years ago.
“I was there for the first edition in 2023 and it was one of the greatest experiences I had in Jamaica. I remember the days of performing at Cinema 2 with Byron Lee and performing on huge shows. WiFete just brought back that energy of a huge sold-out concert fete style event in Jamaica. I feel very honoured to be performing alongside Skippa and Voice, another spirit of Jamaica Carnival big moment,” he said.
“I strive to do better each year, and the Road March King of all time is definitely something I aspired for. I am honoured to be considered in the same light as Lord Kitchener and Mighty Sparrow, and it’s exciting to be celebrating that in Jamaica,” Montano added.
Title sponsor for WiFete and GenXS carnival Smirnoff intends to blend the best of the culture.
“Building on our involvement in 2023, we’re focused on elevating this year’s staging with immersive experiences, premium production moments, and engaging touch points that match the scale and excitement of Carnival Saturday. As WiFete returns as a major highlight on the Carnival calendar, both Smirnoff and Johnnie Walker are proud to help power a night that celebrates music, culture, and connection. Our aim is to enhance the overall concert experience while reinforcing our place at the heart of memorable celebrations this Carnival season,” said Brand Manager Nadine Thomas Hylton.
