Jamaican jockeys and trainers shine at Gulfstream Park
A quartet of successful days at Gulfstream Park in Florida saw several Jamaicans, including jockeys and trainers, celebrate victories from Thursday, April 9 to Saturday, April 11.
The streak began on Thursday, April 9 with Garrett Arscott-trained Pretty Geisha, ridden by Carlos Martinez, capturing the third race. Pretty Geisha is co-owned by former champion jockey Wesley Henry.
The day’s successes continued with Rajiv Maragh guiding Mary Lightner-conditioned Chance To Party to victory in the fifth race, followed by Shaun Bridgemohan piloting Ruta Jawa to win the sixth race for trainer Douglas Seyler.
Friday April 10 saw two Jamaican-linked wins. Rohan Crichton-trained Junction Road, ridden by Joe Bravo, took the fourth race while Maragh notched his second win aboard Royalty Blue, trained by Steve Klesaris, in the eighth race.
On Saturday, April 11, Crichton’s second success came with Final Payment, guided by jockey Diego Herrera, in the third race. Former champion jockey Anthony Thomas partnered War To Remember for Jamaican trainer Christopher Hall, marking Hall’s first American victory.
Maragh completed his weekend triple by steering the Todd Pletcher-trained Woods to success in the sixth race.
There were no Jamaican victories on the final day of the weekend, Sunday, April 12.
