BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — Sister Nancy proved once again why she’s a reggae legend, commanding the stage at the Barbados Reggae Weekend with a performance that had the crowd buzzing.
Performing at the Mount Gay Legends of Reggae Show and Dance at Kensington Oval on Friday, the longtime deejay delivered a high-energy set that solidified her place in the hearts of music fans, both young and old.
Reflecting on her enduring career and her unexpected viral moment earlier this year when she wowed social media with a heartfelt performance at her niece’s wedding, Sister Nancy told Observer Online, “Young people always love Sister Nancy. When I perform, it’s always young people…I’ve been here from 1976…Don’t you hear me seh ain’t no stopping Nancy? I mean that.”
Known for her timeless hit Bam Bam, she told journalists she didn’t expect to still be performing at 64 but counts it as a blessing.
