Lampart unsure if she will compete again this year
Marla Kay Lampart’s continued participation this season is uncertain as the Clarendon College thrower battles injuries.
She could miss the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) National Junior Championships set for June 18-21, and, with it, a place on Jamaica’s team to the World Athletics Under-20 Championships at Hayward Field.
Lampart, who ended her high school career after winning the High School Girls’ shot put at the Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin Field, said she is dealing with elbow and lower back issues and is unsure if she will compete again this year.
“I am not sure if I will compete again this year, and I am just getting ready to go off to college, to the University of Georgia,” she told the Jamaica Observer after winning the event on Thursday.
Lampart, who has a season’s best 14.52m, set at Central Championships, threw 14.41m and said she had been targeting the World Under-20 qualifying mark of 14.50m.
The national junior record holder, with 17.44m, set at the Carifta Games in Trinidad and Tobago, won the Girls’ Class One gold medal at the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships and was third in the Under-20 Girls’ final at the Carifta Games in Grenada.
