When Cavalier host Harbour View, it will be a tale of two clubs — one fighting to keep their title defence alive, the other battling simply to remain in the Wray & Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL).

It’s the headline fixture of the final round of regulation games, with all seven matches set to start at 3:30 pm, but attention will be fixed on Stadium East where two of the island’s most storied clubs collide.

Harbour View, champions as recently as 2022, find themselves in the uncomfortable position of fighting to avoid relegation to parish football.

Formed in 1974, the Stars of the East have been a constant in the top flight since 1995, winning five titles — 2000, 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2022.

The Lenworth Hyde-coached team sit second from bottom in 13th place on 39 points, level with 12th-placed Molynes United. Molynes face Treasure Beach, who are already safe on 43 points in 11th and have only pride left to play for.

Harbour View face a daunting task against a Cavalier side clinging to a top six spot. Cavalier are fifth on 58 points and know defeat could see them overtaken by Racing United (57) and Arnett Gardens (55).

Racing are set to face already relegated Spanish Town Police, while Arnett Gardens travel to Turner’s Oval to play Chapelton Maroons — fixtures both will expect to win.

That leaves Cavalier under significant pressure to deliver, knowing any slip could prove costly. Harbour View, however, will be equally desperate and must produce a standout performance to avoid the drop.

Harbour View enter the game on a positive note, having won their last two matches — a 4-3 victory over then leaders Montego Bay United and a 1-0 win against Molynes United. However, they are yet to beat Cavalier this season, drawing 0-0 in August before losing 1-0 in December.

Meanwhile, leaders Mount Pleasant and second-placed Montego Bay United, both on 71 points, will clash at Drax Hall in a battle to decide the regular-season champion.

Both teams have already secured byes to the semi-finals, but today’s encounter could carry psychological weight should they meet again in the final.
