TRAINER Gary Subratie and jockey Dane Dawkins once again proved that they are a formidable partnership, teaming up for filly Lexi Lou’s dominant victory in the $1.1-million Titania Trophy feature at Caymanas Park on Sunday.

Lexi Lou, a three-year-old, native-bred bay horse, was in no mood to be caught in the Restricted Allowance II event for three-year-old fillies over five and a half furlongs (1,100m). Lexi Lou led from the start to win by 4¼ lengths in 1:08.3. The splits were 24.0, 48.3, and 1:01.3.

From the off, Dawkins sent Lexi Lou straight to the lead. She established a clear advantage heading into the half-mile (800m) turn, with One Ianzha Links, ridden by Reyan Lewis, and Pippa, under Tajay Suckoo, giving chase.

Pippa attempted to mount a challenge at the top of the straight, moving to within touching lengths of the leader, but her effort was short-lived. Under urgings from Dawkins, Lexi Lou shrugged off the challenger and sprinted clear in deep stretch for an emphatic victory.

Minnehaha, with Omar Walker aboard, finished well to take second place, while Midnight Traveller, partnered by Garvin Lewis, was third.

Ramon Nepare was the pick of riders with two winners on the 10-race card. The young jockey won aboard Millinium Star in the sixth race for trainer Marlon Anderson, and Expeditious for trainer Philbert Watson.

Racing is to continue next Saturday and Sunday.
