Clarendon trio make up Ben Francis final four
CLARENDON College continued their defence of the ISSA Ben Francis Cup title with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Manchester High in their quarter-final at Manchester High on Saturday.
Clarendon College led three Clarendon teams into next weekend’s semi-finals after former champions Glenmuir High beat McGrath High 4-0 and Denbigh High defeated Munro College 2-1.
Dinthill Technical are the fourth team in the semi-finals after beating Old Harbour High 4-0.
In the semi-finals, Dinthill Technical will face Glenmuir High, with Clarendon College facing Denbigh High in the other game for a place in the October 17 final.
At Manchester High, Clarendon College finished the game with 10 men after Justin Hayles, who had scored the opening goal, was sent off in the second half. Hayles fired Clarendon College into the lead in the 23rd minute when he dribbled through the Manchester High half and beat the goalkeeper from about 25 yards.
The hosts pulled level in the 50th minute when Daniel Barton got to a rebound off the Clarendon College goalkeeper and shot into the unprotected goal.
Minutes after being reduced to 10 men, Clarendon College restored their lead when a free kick from outside the area found its way through a crowd of players and into the goal.
In the second game of the double-header at Glenmuir High, Orel Miller scored twice while Samari Cousins and Christopher Rodney scored a goal each, as Glenmuir High defeated McGrath High 4-0.
Denbigh High accounted for two St Elizabeth teams in successive rounds, eliminating St Elizabeth Technical in Santa Cruz before going to Munro College and coming away with another 2-1 win.
Kenordo Smith gave Denbigh High the lead in the seventh minute but Nikosi Foncette drew Munro College level in the 17th minute.
With time running out and penalties looming, Lashawn Barnaby scored in the 88th minute to give Denbigh another important win.
