Cardi B’s OUT

Rap superstar cancels C’bean début on BZR WKND

“Mi want back me money.”

That was the blunt response from one disappointed patron on social media Thursday as news spread that international rap superstar Cardi B would no longer headline BZR WKND Jamaica on October 18.

For others, the disappointment quickly turned into questions about their pockets.

“I heard that Cardi cancelled. How do I process my refund?” one patron asked.

“This must be some sick joke cuz me book my flight and buy my concert ticket. Who ago reimburse me?” another wrote.

“Yall need to update us ASAP. This needs to be addressed,” a third demanded.

With Cardi B’s cancellation now confirmed, patrons who had been counting down to what was billed as one of the biggest entertainment weekends on Jamaica’s 2026 calendar are waiting for answers from BZR WKND organisers — particularly on whether the October 18 concert will proceed, whether another headliner will be brought in, and, most urgently, what happens to tickets already purchased.

Cardi B’s representatives confirmed Thursday that the Grammy-winning rapper will not perform at BZR WKND Jamaica, telling Billboard: “Cardi B will not be performing at BZR WKND Jamaica on October 18, 2026.”

The statement added that Cardi B appreciates the “love and support” from her Jamaican fans and hopes to see them in the future, while directing questions about the status of BZR WKND, ticketing, and other event-related matters to the event organisers.

At press time, however, efforts to reach the organisers proved futile, with calls to several key stakeholders going unanswered. Billboard also reported that organisers had not responded to its request for comment.

The silence has left patrons with more questions than answers, particularly those who may have made travel and accommodation arrangements around the highly anticipated event.

And there was plenty to look forward to.

When Cardi B was announced as the headline attraction in August, the booking was positioned as a major moment not only for BZR WKND but for Jamaica’s live entertainment landscape.

The rapper’s October 18 appearance at the National Stadium would have marked her first performance in Jamaica and, more significantly, her first headlining stadium concert in the Caribbean.

For BZR WKND, the stakes were equally high. The festival was being positioned as a four-day celebration of music, culture, food, tourism, fashion, and entertainment, with Cardi B’s stadium show serving as its marquee attraction.

Organisers had envisioned the event as more than a concert, with the weekend expected to attract music lovers and visitors from Jamaica and overseas while contributing to the country’s tourism and entertainment sectors.

At the time of the announcement, organisers Ryan Burke and Roy “Gramps” Morgan described Cardi’s booking as a defining moment for both BZR WKND and Jamaica’s live entertainment industry.

The anticipation was palpable.

BZR WKND had already established itself as a major player on the local concert calendar with its 2023 staging, which featured Chris Brown & Friends at the National Stadium. For 2026, the ambition was to go bigger, with international media attention, overseas visitors, and thousands of patrons expected to converge on Kingston.

The momentum appeared to be building as early bird tickets were reported as sold out, while the official ticketing platform later described the event as having generated “overwhelming demand” and said purchasers had been placed in an e-mail queue for ticket confirmation.

Even Cardi B herself appeared to be embracing the occasion. During a social media live approximately a month before the scheduled performance, the WAP artiste spoke about preparing for her Jamaican showcase and acknowledged the reputation of the local audience as one that would not be easily impressed. She reassured fans that she was taking the performance seriously and was preparing to step up her training and rehearsals ahead of the show.

That preparation, coupled with the scale of the booking, only heightened expectations for what would have been Cardi B’s Jamaican début.

The October 18 concert was also shaping up as a major international showcase, with Grammy-nominated R&B star Keyshia Cole joining Cardi B as a co-headliner and Queen of Dancehall Spice announced as host.

Dancehall acts Malie Donn, Ding Dong, Stalk Ashley, and Shaneil Muir have also been announced among the performers.

Cardi B’s representatives have not stated why she will no longer perform, and no information has been released indicating the status of the October 18 showcase and whether it will proceed with a revised line-up.

More importantly for patrons, no refund arrangement had been announced by the organisers up to press time.

Although there is no indication that the current cancellation is connected to a previous legal dispute involving the brand’s inaugural staging, the development puts BZR WKND under renewed scrutiny.

Following the success of Chris Brown & Friends in 2023, Solid View Limited — the company responsible for the execution of the stage layout — became embroiled in a legal dispute with H&L over outstanding payments for materials supplied for the concert.

H&L sought recovery of approximately $5.6 million, with recovery and administrative costs bringing the dispute closer to $7 million. The company contended that materials and supplies had been urgently requested and delivered for the August 2023 Chris Brown and Friends concert, but that only approximately $1.22 million of a bill totalling more than $6.9 million had been paid.

The case represents a legal hangover from BZR’s 2023 launch, although the management structure for the 2026 staging has evolved and there is no evidence linking that dispute to Cardi B’s withdrawal.

For now, however, it is the patrons — rather than the history of the brand — who are demanding attention. After weeks of promotion, anticipation, and investment, those who bought into the promise of seeing one of the world’s biggest female rap stars make her Caribbean stadium debut are now waiting for the organisers to explain what happens next.
