17 provisionally entered for $6-m Jamaica Cup — only 12 to make final cut

…champion trainer Jason DaCosta dominates entries with eight

THE stage is set for a high-class renewal of the Jamaica Cup, with 17 horses provisionally entered for the $6-million Grade One feature on Monday, October 19, 2026.

The 9½-furlong contest for three-year-olds and upward is one of the most prestigious races on the calendar, but only 12 horses will be allowed to start. The Jamaica Cup is one of the major races that gives the winner automatic entry to this year’s Mouttet Mile.

Selection will be based on lifetime earnings, and with 17 in the mix, five horses are set to be left on the outside looking in.

Champion trainer Jason DaCosta dominates the provisional list with a staggering eight entries — London Spirit, Girvano, Purosangue, California Crown, Funcaandun, Gallant Groom, I Dream Again and Teflon Don.

Of his octet, London Spirit (115 lb) with $5,547,400 and Girvano (118 lb) with $4,973,050 are well placed to make the final 12. Girvano is set to carry joint-second top weight alongside Funcaandun and Barnaby.

I Dream Again and Teflon Don are on the also eligible list.

Former champion trainer Anthony Nunes has three provisionally entered — Barnaby (122 lb), Neo Star and Supremasi — while Gary Subratie has three runners, Royal Poppy, Stardom and Blue Vinyl.

Trainer Philip Feanny’s Rideallday is the top-weighted horse at 126 lb with earnings of $3,931,931, safely inside the cut at this stage. Rideallday has already qualified for the Mouttet Mile having won the Ian Levy Cup and Gold Cup, two of the qualifying races so far. He comes in here as the favourite.

Rohan Crichton’s USA-bred The Prince’s Spur (116 lb; $4,276,050) made a bold statement when winning the Typewriter Trophy by 14½ lengths over 7½ furlongs on September 27. His final time of 1:30.1 speaks very much of his talent and his chances here.

If the race were to close today based on earnings, the five horses listed as also eligible would be on the reserve list: I Dream Again – $1,538,100; Supremasi – $1,444,600; Mojito – $1,123,400; Blue Vinyl – $1,062,900; Teflon Don – $1,015,350.

The final field of 12 will be confirmed later this week, with the draw expected to attract significant attention given the $6-million purse and Grade One status.

The list of the 17 horses, the weights, trainers and earnings is published below. Note: Horses are listed in order of earnings.
