I want my child to listen to me!
A parenting workshop will take place on May 26, at the Spanish Town YWCA, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, as part of the recently launched Child Month 2001 campaign, “Family Dining and Good Parenting” a partnership between Courts Jamaica Ltd and Women’s Media Watch (WMW). This is a workshop for parents and guardians, counsellors and teachers, who feel that young people just won’t listen!
The aim of the workshop is to build closer relationships in families and for family members to live more peacefully together. Participants will also look at how we ‘grow’ boys differently from girls – and challenge some of the gender stereotypes that often lead to behaviour problems.
Parenting is a skill, and this workshop will offer useful tips on key topics such as good communication and listening.
Fathers, mothers and guardians, teachers and peer counsellors, teen parents, NGO workers and church workers, are invited to participate in the workshop. The event will be participatory, with video, role play and discussions. Participants will also gain information about resources available to adults who have the responsibility to care for children.
The event is designed to strengthen adults and young persons alike, and to energise not to enervate.
