Pure pizzazz for Caribbean Fashion Week
Come Wednesday, nightlife in the capital city will be sizzling when all the party people and the fashion crazed come out for a slice of life in a world of glamour and glitz, where models rule the catwalk and designer clothes are the rave. Caribbean Fashion Week (CFW) 2001 brings to our shores a festival of fashion; a tidal wave of events that you just cannot miss.
The nightly fashion shows being staged at 8:30 pm on November 8, 9 and 11, at Villa Ronai, Old Stony Hill Road, are a must-see. Some of the hottest international campaign and runaway supermodels such as Sumayah, Alina, Shakera, and Nathalie will grace the stage.
World famous supermodels Nicki Vassell and Lois Samuels, who emerged from Jamaica through Pulse Entertainment Group, will also be there.
The venue’s parking lot will be transformed into a catwalk, where the models will strut their stuff in collections from the Caribbean’s finest fashion designers.
After the Thursday night show, swing over to Red Bones Blues Café for a grand party and on Friday, when the show is over, the place to be is Terra Nova Hotel. Jamaican faces to look out for throughout the week are Carla Campbell and Romae Gordon. Also to be seen are popular fashion, film and television personalities Christine Ferreira; Frances Pierre and actors, Jacinto Taras Riddick and Leon, who stared in “Cliffhanger”. International male model, Asio, who played a role in the recent box office hit “Zoolander” and is part of the “Sex and the City” and “Law and Order” casts, will be here to participate in the event.
Another major event is the Celebrity Benefit, on Saturday, November 10. This evening’s entertainment begins with cocktails from 8 pm until 11 pm after which the fete is slated to start. Proceeds of from this event are in aid of the establishment of the Caribbean Fashion Foundation, an initiative of the Pulse Entertainment Group to boost the careers of young Caribbean designers.
The main fashion show of the week is set to take place just before the finale on Sunday November 11. Smirnoff Caribbean Fashion Collections will be a final parade of all the models in designer wears, at Villa Ronai.
The finale will take place at Mingles, Courtleigh Hotel, immediately following the ultimate fashion show, at 10 pm. The week-long event is expected to receive extensive international media coverage, as a number of popular overseas media are booked to attend. These include Essence, Vanity Fair, People Magazine. Vibe Magazine, NBC News, New York Daily News, the Philadelphia Tribune, London Times, and Financial Times, among many others.
Fashion Week is produced and presented by the Pulse Entertainment Group and sponsored by JAMPRO, the European Union’s Trade Development Project, Smirnoff, Air Jamaica, the Hilton Kingston Hotel and the Jamaica Tourist Board. JAMPRO, the first sponsor of the event is co-ordinating the exhibition. Hot 102 and TVJ are providing media support.
Sumayah
Sumayah was born in St Lucia and grew up in Louisiana. She started her career as a model five years ago, taking the international market by storm. Sumayah has worked for some of world’s top designers, such as Givenchy, Ungaro, Sonia Riquel, Louis Feraud, Christian LaCroix just to name a few. Her campaign credits includes Hugo Boss, Wella, and Dockers.
Her career has led her in a new direction and she can sometimes be seen moonlighting on various TV Network covering entertainment news as a reporter, a role which she feels quite at home in and a path she will eventually take on full time.
Nathalie
This twenty-four year old beauty who originates from French Guyana fell into modelling quite by accident. For the last three years, Nathalie has travelled the world on modelling assignments and has worked with some of the world’s best photographers such as Richard Avedon, Terry Richardson, Marcus Klinko, Antoine Verglas, and others.
Nathalie has graced the pages of top magazines including Vibe, Elle, Marie Claire, Mademoiselle and others; her campaign credits include Phat Farm and Maurice Malone.
Away from her busy schedule she spends time with the love of her life top model Din Yates.
