Jazz under the stars
The Office of Public Affairs at the United States Embassy, in partnership with distinguished Jamaican sponsors, is once again celebrating Black History Month 2002 with an exciting concert.
This year’s event will be a fund-raiser to enable the Embassy to give the opportunity for an additional Fulbright Scholar to study in the United States, beginning August, 2002.
The event dubbed “Jazz Under the Stars” is slated for this Friday, beginning at 5:30 pm, rain or shine, on the East Lawns of Devon House. The show will be headlined by American jazz vocalist, Johnnie Eason from Atlanta, Georgia. She will perform alongside Jamaican jazz greats The Sonny Bradshaw Band, Myrna Hague, Dean Fraser and the Maurice Gordon Jazz Quartet. Eason will also participate in a workshop for inner-city schools with Maurice Gordon, sponsored by the Kingston Restoration Company. The MC for the evening is Fae Ellington.
Tickets for the event are available from the Office of Public Affairs at the U S Embassy. First Floor, Mutual Life Building, South Tower, Oxford Road.
