Love, honour at the Ritz
The venue was the Ritz Rosehall Spa and Golf Resort.
Guests had started arriving from Thursday, and in true Indian tradition, there was an event each evening. The groom, Prem, the gorgeous last born son of Pishni and Narain Khiatani (His mother told us that Prem is no abbreviation, but translated into English, means Love) checked into the Presidential suite with guests on several floors below.
Morning rituals over on Saturday, the day of the wedding, it was time for part 1 of the evening’s activities. Eschew all thoughts of formal pomp and splendour. Things literally just fell into place.
About 50 guests enjoyed the ritual of the wedding with beautiful bride, Christina pledging love, honour and deference.
Guests numbering many hundreds enjoyed Ritzy cocktails prior to filing into the grande ballrooom. The head table was embraced by bride, groom and best friends.
MC Gordon Brown conducted the formalities and the Ocho Rios award winning restaurant, Passage to India allowed both “Cowboys and Indians” to tear roti and chicken masala, thus embracing the Continent prior to enjoying the offerings of the many other food stations.
Speeches were meaningful and brief. Cake cutting was a full family affair. Dancing then followed, with turntable arrangements by Andrew Henry.
Some of the nattily dressed guests included a bevy of absolutely stunning members of the Indian community adorned with Oscar gems; bodies wrapped tightly in exquisite saris. The young daughters were out too, and included the very soigne Mlle Vaswani and Natani Tewani.
The still younger set were not to be outdone and included Nikhil Khiatani, Minali Chandiram and Shaan Khiatani. The bride’s parents Gary and Charlotte Cox from the States, Prem’s brother Sunil – a suave Chris Nakash with designer-clad wife Zein, Dr Tony Vendreyes and wife Dorothy, perfect in Valentino, the Brian Jardims, David Totten and Judy Eliot from
Canada, Best man Delius Shirley, Mischa Mills, daughter of Ambassador Don Mills and Sonia Mills and constant companion, Standard and Poor’s, Europe, Kurt Sampson. Diana and Gordon Tewani, a stunning looking Molly Upton and Ian Dear, and still a host more of carat bystanders.
Festivities moved from Montego Bay on Monday to Negril with champagne popping throughout.
A bientot!
P.S. Think Sean Connery, Humphrey Bogart and George Clooney, and voila!, the new general manager at the Ritz. The pity ladies is that he’s already taken. I would call in the real estate brigade but he has already found suitable accomodations.
