Carnival Chic
Some might be thinking that Carnival is off to a slow, perhaps late start. Fact is, us ladies have always kept the best till last, and we are now ready to, excuse the pun, profile. The stores have started to put out the Spring and Summer lines and we plan to soca all day into night.
Fashion designers are on the side of all socaphiles for once again leisure wear is hot and if you have not yet bought at least one trendy casual ensemble, it might be difficult to wine down to Iwer George’s Gimme a Bligh. So just how does one put together a chic carnival wardrobe?
First things first.
Invest in the bottom part of your wardrobe. Leisure bottoms in grey, pink, black and of course, white will do the trick every time. Look for a ‘hippy’ fit. Drawstrings, or buttons are cool. Waist fits which flip over to reveal a fleece look are also hot.
Since the look suggests ‘fit,’ ensure that your leisure wear looks as if you have some kind of relationship with a personal trainer.
Add a snug-fitting top to the bottom. There goes that midriff on display once again. There’s absolutely no escape this year. Choose tops in colours of mango, pink and powder blue.
The final piece is the leisure windbreaker. This jacket closes the ensemble, and adds the final soca chic. The jacket, however, is not to be worn as if it’s really there. Wear it open and somewhat hanging. This jacket is also a great way to disguise a not-so-firm rear end or a not-too-toned stomach. So move the jacket from around the shoulders, to the waist, to the hip. The jacket, by the way, does not have to match. Feel free to mix and match. Think soca madness.
Soca chic accessories
Jewellery continues to make its own soca fashion statement. The choice is entirely yours. Add jewellery to your face (use lots of shimmer, and sparkle). Or add chunky, vintage jewellery to the neck, wrists, and fingers.
Toes should sparkle. Make an appointment today with your nail technician and allow her to excite you with hot summer colours and to go to town with nail accessories.
Sandals work well except on the day of the road march and naturally leisure wear appeals to chic looking running walking shoes.
