Pamper the man in your life with a spa treatment

BY SOPHIA FINDLAY-LAIDLEY Observer staff reporter

Believe it or not, your man would rather be pampered this Christmas-but not necessarily by you. A gift certificate to a spa that offers massage, facials, manicure and pedicures is an ideal gift for your Dad, husband, brother or son.

So, give a gift they’ll really use!

Why not surprise him with a certified gift arrangement tucked in a plush robe or the always-handy socks, tie or handkerchief?

Then watch his face lights up by just thinking of a terrific back rub, soft hands, a smooth face and good-looking feet.

Corporate executive Lloyd Distant, Vice-President of Corporate & Business at Cable and Wireless Jamaica Limited, loves the idea.

He says he once had a hot stone massage and has been thinking about how relaxing it was and that he could use a similar experience.

“Once I got a hot stone massage and it was great. I was always a skeptic when it comes on to things like those but now I’ll welcome another anytime,” he confessed.

“Because life is so stressful you always look for an opportunity to relax like getting a massage, a manicure or a pedicure,” he said.

“A day or even a few hours of being pampered is always desired. It’s something to look forward to.”

Although many spas and salons across the island have tried to address a growing interest in the men’s grooming trend it is one thing to go into these spas and another to go to a male-oriented spa. Totally Male is one such locale. It is dubbed ‘the place where women cater to men exclusively’ and is manned by an all-female staff.

Says owner of the establishment, Sandra Samuels, “We have services that address individual needs like an ingrown hair extraction. That service would be an excellent choice for someone with that problem.”

The New Kingston-based salon proprietor also recommends for someone who is always in the public’s eye a manicure would be perfect. A therapeutic massage would also be a great choice for relaxation.

The exclusive male salon offers services such as haircuts priced at $350 up, excluding tax; -shaves $250 inclusive of tax;

-Shampoos $287.50, inclusive of tax;

-Facials $2,300, inclusive of tax;

-Body scrubs $1,750, inclusive of tax;

– manicure $690, inclusive of tax; and

– pedicure $920, inclusive of tax;

– massages are for $2,875, inclusive of tax; and

– Ingrown extraction.

Three or more services combined, attract a 10 % discount.

For a more rural outlook, your man could take a trip to May Pen, Clarendon to sample the offerings of the Milk River Hotel and Spa.

Receptionist Kaysha-Lee Hines of the natural hot spring bath locale tells all woman that they do cater to men. They offer therapeutic massages, manicures and pedicures.

A full body massage is priced at $1500; half body at $750; back only $500; feet only $500; and head and shoulders for $350.

Manicures are priced at $200 and for a pedicure the cost is $300.

“We also offer facials too,” said Hines.

While back in town at Nirvana Day Spa on Lady Musgrave Road, exotic treatment await the men.

Michael Thwaites, a hairstylist at the establishment, supplies a list of inviting pampering options just for men.

He quoted a ‘Passport to Paradise’ package for $8,300 plus tax, which involves a ginseng and pearl hydrating facial, aromatherapy massage, an ultimate manicure and a peppermint pedicure.

The ‘Men’s Getaway’ packag,e said Thwaites, was priced at $10,000, plus tax, and began with a men’s facial fitness, an aromatherapy massage, a Babassu sugar rub, and ends with a cranmary manicure and pedicure.

“We can also customise packages to suit clients depending on their budget and their individual needs,” he says. But for the lowest priced package at the upscale Kingston spa, is the three-hour Tranquility. It is priced at $6,900, plus tax.

That package consists of a Nirvana Hydro massage, facial in a flash and a champagne pedicure. There you have it. Let the special guy in your life love you forever by indulging him with a fantastic spa treatment this Christmas.
