Amoy Moulton crowned first Miss Jamaica Global International
Amoy Moulton, a 24 year-old concierge agent at Sandals Negril is the first ever Miss Jamaica Global International. She edged out 16 other contestants to cop the top spot.
Standing at five feet eleven inches, Amoy proudly wore the sash Miss Sandals Negril and was a clear favourite from the beginning of the competition, which was held at the Negril Hills Golf Club, Hanover recently.
It was a spectacular evening as the 17 contestants strutted down the runway, showcasing not only their beauty but also their intellect and awareness of wide-ranging socio-political topics.
Moulton was an early favourite at the coronation, which saw close to 750 patrons. She walked confidently throughout the two-hour finals in front of a frenzied crowd and a high profile panel of judges, which included Seragh Lakersingh(chief judge), managing director of JAC Consumer Products Ltd; Gordon Brown, attorney-at- law; Her Excellency Leonora Rueda, Mexican ambassador to Jamaica; Romayne McNab, Miss Commonwealth 2005; and Leroy Williams, entertainment promoter.
Moulton wowed the packed audience with her elegance, stature, poise, confidence and intelligence seemingly holding her own in all sections of the contest. According to chief judge Lakersingh, “The competition was extremely close, especially for the top three spots. Amoy met the basic standards based on the assessment of the competition criteria. However, she really stood out in the question and answer segment which helped to seal the deal for her.”
Said Moulton, “I am overwhelmed and excited about the win. I tried to keep my calm while under pressure, and obviously it paid off.”
The newly-crowned Miss Global International 2006 will represent Jamaica at the international coronation in June. As the local winner, she walked away with J$25,000, a trip to Barbados, weekend for two at any Sandals Resorts in Jamaica, cellphones from Digicel and Miphone, a television set, jewellery and more.
Other winners in the competition were Miss Moondance Villas Camille Box, first runner-up who also won the sectional prize for Most Aware; and Crystal Nembhard, Miss Sandals Whitehouse, second runner-up who was also named Most Congenial.
