Revitalight: New treatment promises to fix skin problems
The world of dermatology has a new product on the market called Revitalight which promises to soothe everything from mild aches and pains to eczema.
Revitalight, a skin care system that uses advanced Light Emitting Diodes (LED) technology, is used in 48 countries globally.
Only one machine is available in Jamaica at the Face Solutions Spa, owned by Sharon Williamson. Williamson said she heard about the product at an international skin show in May.
“It has three lights -the blue, the red and the amber,” she explained. “What makes this light so good is that it penetrates the skin.”
She said that the amber is used in physiotherapy for problems likes aches, pains and arthritis; the blue light is used to treat conditions such as eczema, and the red light is used to treat problems like sun damage and rosacea.
“It also takes out dark circles under the eyes,” she said. “You find that a lot of women in Jamaica are getting that, I do not know if it is from high stress levels or lack of sleep.”
She said that the treatment boosts collagen production, which is important because as you age, the collagen production in the skin is depleted.
“It also takes out scars and burns on the skin, and if you have any pigmentation on the skin, it also takes that out,” Williamson said.
It takes a series of treatments to receive desirable results.
“We recommend six treatments,” she said. The treatments cost $3500 each.
Other procedures such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels may be done before or after to enhance the outcome.
“We analyse the skin first and we check to see how sensitive it is,” she said.
There are precautions for women who are pregnant, epileptic or have thyroid problems.
