A touch of Korea for Caymanas
We’d like to thank our readers for the positive feedback on Vows – The Jamaica Observer wedding publication. We continue our look at aspects of weddings that our ‘on location’ crew reckon will pique your interest as much as ours.
This week we take a peek at a Korean-Jamaican couple Jungmee Choi and Jin Kim who tied the knot on January 14, 2007 at the Caymanas Golf Club. We also contemplate the aisle dilemma. A bride’s final walk as a single ought to be taken a lot more seriously and slower for that matter.

It was certainly a wedding with a difference. The bride and groom, owners of a supermarket and retail store in Spaulding, got the honeymoon out of the way first. “We knew we’d be busy after the wedding,” explained Jungmee, “so we enjoyed a Bahamian honeymoon ahead of our special day”.
We’re used to seeing the bride change twice, this time however, the bride changed a total of three times. “We wanted to include the National Dress of Korea called the Han Bok so yes, I had three wardrobe changes instead of two,” shared Jungmee.
There was another Korean tradition – one that we’re sure will find favour with many of our female readers. The groom, Jin Kim, whom the bride met at college in Korea, had both his hands and feet tied with rope while guests feigned beating him with sticks and spoons. “It’s a Korean prank,” shares Jungmee, “that shows that the woman has now become the boss. I had to sing traditional Korean songs and literally beg for his freedom”. That’s an awesome amount of bridal power!
The bride got dressed at the Courtleigh Hotel and was assisted by wedding coordinators and decorators Lisa Lue Yen and Gail Chung.
