Lingering scents
IN movies and books we hear about Chanel No 5, one of the most romanticised perfumes ever. We’re told of it’s ability to draw a sense of mystery to the wearer – it’s the perfume of vixens and stars, and on the male front, it’s complimented by Old Spice, another frequently used blend.
Perfume has the ability to make the wearer leave an impression. The perfume you choose is your signature, the thing that many a suitor will remember you by. We all have memories of that special scent that special someone left behind, and we all work towards having a signature scent that people will remember us by.
Last week we asked for your signature scent and the stories behind them. Here’s what you said.
My ex-boyfiend died in an accident three years ago and I still remember his scent, and remember him each time I encounter someone wearing it. He always wore Hugo Boss and every time I smell it I want to cry all over again.
-Julie
My girlfriend wears Glow by JLO. It smells really fresh and clean, and I love to nibble at her neck whenever she’s wearing it.
-Michael
I’ll always have a special fondness for Amarige de Givenchy. In high school, I’d steal it from my mother’s room and the scent lasted for hours and hours. I’m still a huge fan today and it’s always my first pick when choosing perfumes.
-Taneisha
Exclamation Blush reminds me of my best friend at university who migrated. Every time I smell it on someone, I remember her.
-Shauna
My boyfriend actually uses Old Spice and I love it on him. He’s a bit of a nerd, but whenever he wears that cologne, I imagine huggable, husky men chopping wood in a forest somewhere:)
-Petra
Fahrenheit by Christian Dior always helps me to get girls when I’m lacking confidence. Just try it. Go to Jamrock wearing it and see what happens!
-Mark
The funny thing about Burberry Weekend is that it reminds me of my friend overseas, not in a positive way. She bought it once and I thought it smelled like roach spray. I’m not sure if she had the fake version, but to this day I think of her each time I smell it, and wonder if she’s still a fan! -TT
I like White Diamonds and always spray some on my pillow whenever I have a man over. It makes me feel invincible and powerful like Liz Taylor. -Anna
Eternity Moment will always have a special place in my heart. My boss had just bought me a bottle when I met my boyfriend. One of the first things he complimented me on, was how nice I smelled.

How did you do it?
There’s a certain class of man – the traditionalist – who holds on to the strangest ideals – like not wanting you to use canned peas, coconut milk or the like; or like those who refuse to grant certain sexual favours in the bedroom, all in the name of remaining true to that old time tradition.
There’s a certain class of woman who’s forced to deal with this type, and whether for economics or love, finds herself stuck with a seemingly unmoveable character. Then there are those who have succeeded in having their Joe Dud transform into a Jim of all Services, who discards the old and embraces the new. We want to hear from you.
How did you convince your guy to go all the way sexually? How did you get him to accept that the world’s a-changing and that he needed to follow? Email your stories to allwomanjaobs@yahoo.com.
