Glominerals: beauty with a higher purpose
Most of us know only too well the sinking feeling that accompanies an acne breakout, and even when we seemingly get it under control there’s that dreaded recurrence or a truly conspicuous zit. Regular visits to the dermatologist coupled with frequent facials and gentle extractions seem the route many are taking.
At Face to Face Unisex Skin Care Salon & Spa, however, Paramedical Aesthetician Andrea McKenzie-Ricketts has added glominerals cosmetics to her shelves of goodies. “I was successfully keeping my clients’ acne under control,” shares McKenzie-Ricketts with allwoman, “but after reverting to wearing their regular make-up, we’d be back to where we started.”
As if anticipating our next question McKenzie-Ricketts continues, “I was introduced to glominerals (beauty with a higher purpose) on one of my many training trips overseas and discovered the following: glominerals does not contain talc (talcum powder is generally used as a bulking agent). It allows cosmetic companies to increase the product they get for the pigment they put in.
This addition results in a product that has greater oil-absorbing properties, but requires that more product be applied to the skin to achieve the desired coverage.
The lack of talc in glominerals means that one can achieve fuller coverage using less product: the make-up feels lighter on the skin, and will last through the day.
Products that contain talc can have adverse effects – a talc particle is heavier than a mineral pigment and will settle into both pores and wrinkles. Therefore, products containing talc are more likely to accentuate wrinkles and clog pores.
Glominerals lies on top of the skin’s surface, evening out complexions without accentuating faults.
Glominerals allows the skin to breathe; unlike traditional make-up products, glominerals is not occlusive on the skin. Glominerals does not cover and conceal the skin like a lid, but rather lies on the skin like scales on a fish. This creates a porous layer which allows the skin to breath through the make-up.
The information gleaned is an eye-opener, but we’re eager to see how it works on someone with acne, like Marie Morgan-Sang who wants light but effective coverage. Make-up artist Roxanne Morgan, using glominerals products, sets to work using a medium coverage recommended for skin with mid-range afflictions.
As the make-up application takes place, McKenzie-Ricketts shares with us more glominerals positives: “The powerful antioxidant blend of vitamins C, A, K, E and green tea extract provides nutrients that are vital to maintaining the health of your skin while protecting it from further damage.
Glominerals products are non-comedogenic so the skin can breathe, this further reduces the potential for bacteria to become trapped in pores. Marie Morgan-Sang’s makeover is almost complete and we love the fresh, clean look. “What’s even better,” reminds McKenzie-Ricketts, “is that her skin is being treated”. It is indeed.
