Single and loving it!
BEING single and happy might seem like an oxymoron to some women. After all, they surmise, there is nothing to feel happy about when instead of a warm body they are left holding the pillows at night. But while being married has its perks, so does flying solo as soon as you stop feeling sorry for yourself and start capitalising on your status. Here are some ways that you can remain alone without being lonely.
Eliminate those toxic people.
These are the type of people who never fail to remind you that you are single (as if it is not obvious). If it is possible to take a u-turn every time you see them at a social event, then do so. Don’t underestimate their ability to rain on your parade. If possible, just drop them from your circle altogether.
Pamper yourself.
Since you don’t have to share your money with anyone else, you should be able to splurge on yourself. Go visit a masseuse and get a makeover or visit Timbuktu, whatever pleases you. Forget the stereotype too – there is nothing shameful about hanging out with you. So don’t be afraid to have a candlelight dinner minus the company, or go and watch a new romance movie solo.
Think about the things you get away with being single.
There are some benefits to being single. Just ask any married woman and they will willingly point them out. You get to go wherever you want without getting anyone’s permission and can watch television all day without being called lazy.
Join an online community.
In most cases when singles say they are unhappy, it is because they lack companionship. So if you are shy and reserved, you can join an online community to meet, greet and socialise. Even if you don’t have a romantic interest in your online pal, he/she might be an outlet to share your fears and discuss other social issues.
Have anniversaries celebrating special days in your life.
Anniversaries are not only for married couples. You can have an annual dinner party with your friends on a particular day of the year to commemorate friendship. This should be a lot of fun, especially if you have a number of pals. So while wedding anniversaries allow couples to celebrate their life together, you can let your friends know just how much you appreciate them with ‘singles’ anniversaries.
