I’ve Dreamed of You
Kimberly Garvey, daughter of Mark and Pauline Garvey of Pal-Mark Imports and Distributors Limited, said ‘I do’to Eliud Ramocan, son of minister of religion at Church of God International and counselling psychologist George Ramocan and Dr Lola Ramocan, Quality Education and Early Childhood Specialist at UNICEF, at a beautiful afternoon ceremony on Sunday, August 30, 2009.
Witnessed by a large gathering that included Prime Minister Bruce Golding and his wife Lorna, and former Prime Minister Edward Seaga and his wife Carla, the ceremony took place at the romantic University of the West Indies chapel, Mona. The bride is a medical student at the University of the West Indies, while the groom is the CEO of his own company, the EMCD group.
In the beginning.
The couple met on Christmas day in 2004 and in Kimberly’s own words there were sparks from the beginning: ” I was waiting in the lobby of Jamrock with friends and Eliud was just coming from church; as he opened the door our eyes met and we just stared at each other.” The pair met up at school the following January and have been inseparable ever since. Eliud confessed his love to Kimberly on her birthday in November 2008 and they became engaged in December of the same year.
Modern Romance
After months of planning, event planner Jennise Wedderburn of Branding and Events Limited and Allison Dexter of Weddings by Almande, made the couple’s fairy tale become a reality. The bride appeared on the arm of her father and was simply breathtaking in a white A-line halter train gown, from the Michaelangelo David’s Bridal Collection that featured delicate beaded embroidery throughout the bodice and skirt and an intricate lace hemline. Modern jewellery gave her a romantic softness. Her hair, styled by Portia Morgan in an upswept chignon, was fastened beneath an elbow-length veil accented by a fitted tiara.
The groom, equally elegant in his black tux complete with a satin bow-tie and calla lily boutonniere, could not contain his excitement and not only beamed from ear to ear, but bowed and gently took the hand of his bride to show his love.
The bridal party was also elegantly styled: the maid of honour Tessa Gibbs and bridesmaids Kimara Garvey, Stephanie Lyew, Khianda Brown, Rondene Rattigan and Janielle Smith wore one-shoulder dresses with ruched bustlines in plum and fuchsia by David’s Bridal. They were complemented by their counterparts, best man Adrian St Louis and groomsmen Dane Thomas, Luke Stewart, Rhian Nicely, Kwame Thomas and Andre Dennis who were all smartly outfitted in black, accented by their waistcoats and ties from Beautiful Brides and Mr Tux. Hand-tied bouquets and boutonnieres were created by Weddings by Almande.
The two adorable flower girls, Sarian Ellis and Allayne McGibbon, wore pink A-line dresses complete with dainty fairy wings while ring bearer Haniel Ramocan melted hearts in his black tux.
Outpouring of Love
Officiating ministers for the ceremony were Pastor Kenroy Wedderburn and Reverend Michael Hammond. There were many touching moments including the matrimonial hymn arranged by Kimberly and Eliud, the declaration of intent also done in song by the couple and the ‘Cord of three strands’ unity ceremony. Duo Dale and Mary James’ performance of Grow Along With Me and the dance segment by the Tivoli Dance Troupe to No One by Ce Ce Winas, kept guests entertained during the ceremony.
A Musical journey
Guests enjoyed cocktails on the patio of the Mona Visitors’ Lodge before heading into the gold room for the dinner reception. The ornate room was decorated by Allison Dexter of Weddings by Almande using dramatic trumpet vases of fuchsia, baby pink and white blooms on tables dressed with fuchsia, plum and silver accents.
The evening began with a choreographed dance number by Kimberly and Eliud to I’ve Dreamed Of You by Barbra Streisand and also featured live cabaret which was well received during the sumptuous dinner prepared by Audrey Chin-Oldfield. Master of ceremonies Alden McGibbon kept guests entertained with his humorous advice on love and marriage for the couple. There were speeches by the best man and the maid of honour as well as a toast to the parents of the groom by Edward Seaga.
The celebrations continued into the night and saw the ladies take the floor to Beyoncé’s Single Ladies for the tossing of the bouquet and the theme song of Mission Impossible for the tossing of the garter. The celebrations were closed with a father-daughter dance and the mother-son dance after which guests took to the dance floor.
