New book for parents of kids with eczema
PARENTS of kids of colour often find it difficult to get help for their kids’ eczema, dermatologist Dr Neil Persadsingh says. Now he is offering help in a book that addresses the common skin problem.
Eczema In Kids Of Colour covers issues from the earliest onset of eczema until the issue resolves, with a special emphasis on dark skin — that is any other skin type other than white, “including Indian, Spanish, Portuguese, Asian and all mixtures in between”.
“There are variations in the way eczema is treated in different parts of the world, which makes this book of interest to dermatologists as well as suffers of eczema,” Dr Persadsingh says.
Chock full of facts, Eczema In Kids Of Colour includes a thorough definition of eczema, the structure of the skin, differences between black and white skin, complications, clinical presentation and types of eczema, causes of eczema, factors affecting eczema, treating eczema, antibiotic treatment, and natural treatments of eczema.
In addition, the book also lists the most commonly asked questions about eczema, a parent handout for patients with eczema, a list of topical medicines used in the treatment of eczema, a list of natural medicines used to treat eczema, a bibliography and colour photographs of eczema.
Dr Persadsingh holds a diploma in dermatology from the University of London, St John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a founding member of the Dermatological Association of Jamaica and the Caribbean Dermatological Association.
