Me, my man, and his Betsy
IF your man owns a car you have been there: that point in the relationship when you realise that there are three people in the relationship and the third person isn’t a woman, but his gas guzzling mechanical companion. You know, Betsy, the car he spends hours washing outside or blowing a hole in your budget overspending on car parts while your need for help with household chores gets put to the bottom of his priority list.
Yeah, Betsy gets you where you need to go when you need it, but Betsy still steals your man away from you without even trying. Or maybe for you it’s not Betsy the car, but it’s golf, the fellows, the Internet, Playstation, Sportsmax, reality TV shows…
How can a girl compete with that?
Elizabeth, 32:
Initially when I met my then boyfriend I knew he was into video games and all but I had no idea the extent to which he was into them. I tried at first to pretend like it wasn’t a problem, however, there came a point when I just could pretend anymore. I mean he would literally wake up in the middle of the night to sign in online to play with people from around the world. Can you believe that? I mean what type of man leaves his hot woman in bed to go play video games?
Sarah, 28:
When I met my boyfriend he had a car but bwoy, was I in for a surprise! I mean he will literally spend two hours on the weekends washing the car. When it comes to buying parts for the car, he doesn’t hesitate. At one point I had to ask him if car parts can eat! I understand that the car takes us places when we need it to but surely there is a healthy balance between a man and his love for his car.
Ava, 27:
I thought my girlfriends and I were the only ones into reality TV and series shows. Oh no! My man for sure has this one locked. He watches his series hours on end, no joke. I wonder sometimes how his eyes don’t begin to give him problems yet.
Marcia, 46:
I’ve been married for over 15 years and my husband hasn’t changed one bit since we got married. He and his boys still meet up at the games room and they stay out late. To me, this is the behaviour I expect from my teenage son, not my husband. I guess some things never change.
Yanique, 35:
I really do pity women who sincerely believe that they can change their men. From my experience this cannot be done. The most you can do is just work with him as he is or if it is too much the two of you can separate. Since I met my man he has been drinking. Back then I thought nothing of it, as for me it seemed like casual drinking. However, this casual drinking has been going on now for over 10 years! His friends, I believe, are his cue to drink as he doesn’t drink around me or the children.
