Hair’s how he likes it
IT has a job to do — in ages past it was for warmth and protection from the elements, and it’s a buffer against bacteria and other unwanted pathogens. Yet millions of women worldwide spend billions of dollars each year on hair removal methods — shaving, waxing, laser, electrolysis, and the list goes on.
Some say it’s cultural, the move to rid the body of all traces of hair which reminds us of our caveman ancestors; for others the decision is feeding off popular culture, where bare is the rage. Not much of the decision to shave or not to shave is based on personal hygiene, but much of it has to do with pleasing a partner.
As such, women will spend and spend, and endure nicks and cuts and burns in an effort to get the clean look.
But late last year the Internet exploded with news of a new trend in the United States — women growing out their underarm hair and dying it bright, bold colours, in a revolution that sought to embrace the natural. It was a move that got many women excited, as they could see a future with no more razor bumps or chemical burns.
But are the men feeling the movement? This week we asked men their preference for down there and armpit hair on women. Does she need to shave, or will her guy embrace her, au naturel?
Kevin, 40:
I like when it is au naturel. When the pubic area is groomed or in shapes it’s a turn off. I like to see a true reflection of a woman, and showing the natural side of you is best to me.
Anthony, 35:
Grooming is absolutely necessary, either you do that or you cut it all off. I find it absolutely annoying and I find it to be a hindrance as well.
Shane, 27:
I like hair. It tickles and it feels good during intercourse. It’s entirely up to the woman what she does. Some say they feel cleaner when the hairs are gone, others feel comfortable just being themselves.
Chris, 50:
It’s neither here nor there. I have no expectations so I’m hardly ever disappointed. But to be frank, every woman is different. If one shaves and the other doesn’t, you really can’t use it as a marker to say the one who doesn’t is unclean. It’s not my place to make demands, but hair can be annoying when you’re trying to get down to business.
Alexander, 42:
I don’t want to see a forest. I want to see shapes like a landing strip, delta, a star… be creative, amuse me.
Dennis, 30:
Not a forest, but certainly not bald. Waxing or shaving your pubic region is unattractive. Trimming is great, but baldness is just not a true representation.
Sean, 37:
Too much hair is just not cool. Take some time for yourself. Hair holds on to scent, and no want wants a smelly situation. Just groom yourself.
Rudyard, 46:
I don’t mind a forest. I think it’s sort of cool in a sense. Honestly. It’s like a playground for me.
