Unrequited love

Since the publication of a similar piece a few weeks ago, more and more people have been sharing their stories of the worst reaction they’ve got to saying ‘I love you’ to someone who didn’t share their affections.

I told this guy once that I loved him, and he replied ‘ditto’.

Rachel, 29:

These guys nowadays, all they do is play mind games. I remember telling this one guy that I loved him and he looked me in the eyes and told me that he never meant to take it that far.

Yvonne, 33:

I have had one man just get up and leave. No explanation, no nothing. Haven’t heard from him since.

Sharon, 30:

I was in a long distance relationship with this man and so over the phone before we ended our call, I told him that I loved him. There was a long pause on the other end, then he hung up the phone. I tried calling him thinking that his battery died or something,  but I soon realised that he had blocked my number.

I have had one guy tell me straight out, ‘I love me too!’

Once I said it to a woman, then she  just went silent for the rest of the night.

I have got a raised eyebrow before as well as, ‘Oh zeen’.

I said it to a woman once and she told me she had to go tell her mother.

After I told a girl this once, she said to me flat out, ‘Well then mi sorry fi you!’ Then she burst out laughing.

I have chosen to just pretend he didn’t say it and just continued eating my dinner.

Once a girlfriend of mine laughed at me and then proceeded to ask me if I was making a joke.

‘I don’t love you, at least not yet’. He said that he was not at that place in his life.
