Benefits of body sculpting
MANY people desire to shape and tone their bodies after losing weight, and with body sculpting this is possible.
Rohan Gordon, personal trainer at Eden Gardens Wellness Resort and Spa, says body sculpting or core conditioning, which is a non-aerobic and aerobic muscle-toning class, usually focuses on the cardiovascular system and the muscular system, sculpting and targeting core strength and other muscles.
“Most sculpting classes use weight weigh bars, exercise bands or dumbbells, or a combination of these weights. You perform traditional weight-training moves in a class setting, but the weight-training exercises are easy to learn and put little impact on the joints, unlike high-impact cardio workouts.”
Gordon said the benefits of body sculpting include:
1. Lowering the risk of bone loss
Gordon said the pattern of exercise improves strength and muscle tone and lowers people’s risk of bone loss. Exercises like the overhead press, dumbbell row, lunges and squats are the fundamental building blocks of the body-sculpting programme and are important in increasing bone density. “Upper body strength training will improve bone density in the wrists, and lower body exercises such as squats and lunges will help load the femur bones in the legs,” he said.
2. The classes are small
Gordon said the classes are small, and one-on-one interaction is easy to achieve. “It’s a slow and concentrated class. It’s easy for me to go around to everyone and help them rather than leave people on their own,” he said.
3. Low impact on joints
“The weight-training exercises are easy to learn and place little to no pressure on your joints. There’s no jumping involved or rigorous movements,” he said.
4. Boosts metabolism
The personal trainer said core conditioning helps retain lean muscle tissue while boosting metabolism.
5. Anyone can do it
According to Gordon, any fitness level can do the core-conditioning exercises. “It helps you to lose weight, become firm and toned,” he said.
Moreover if you are a first-timer, he said you should be prepared to experience muscle soreness for two days after your exercise workout class, but remember it is also helping to burn fat.
“If you want to focus on a particular part of your body, always remember body sculpting is the way to go. Just know that you’ll be strengthening (toning) these body parts and melting fat off them.”
