Because I’m a girl…
WOMEN have struggled to rise beyond the common stereotypes that are often used to define who we are. But even with the advancements being made globally to shatter the glass ceiling and break down social and cultural boundaries, there are still number of challenges that women face on the world stage.
This week we ask women to share the unique experiences of entrapment that they believe they face because of their sex.
Cheyenne Stone:
I feel that I have to live up to certain expectations that society portrays, and men act as though I am a lesser being than they are.
Kassia Kelly:
I feel like I am trapped in a world where I am objectified and seen as a symbol of sex, a household robot and a deviant whenever I try to escape what is seen as my womanly space.
Monique Minto:
Society expects so much of me which leads me to feel pressured all the time. However, I am led to be more proactive and leave my comfort zone. But this doesn’t make me feel any better when I am judged for doing certain things and acting a certain way because I belong to one sex and not the other.
Olivia Frazer:
I tend to get overly emotional. I see things as more than they really are. I crave attention and affection from the one I love the most. I tend to be a perfectionist who wants things done right, hence I strive for the best.
Tauna Thomas:
Buying tons of shoes shouldn’t be frowned upon.
Kemeisha Anderson:
I have to work twice as hard to receive half the respect of a man.
Azanette Smith:
I am more vulnerable to proposals of sexual exchanges for professional advancement. I am not able to work freely and fairly among my male companions without being offered easy and degrading loopholes to success.
