Foster a child today
LAST week the Child Development Agency (CDA) observed its 10th annual National Foster Care Week under the theme, ‘Share Your Home, Foster a Child’.
Public Relations and Communications Manager at the CDA, Rochelle Dixon, said the agency has been recognising the week since 2006, and it’s aimed at encouraging citizens to become foster parents and highlighting the important contribution that foster parents make to national development.
“Foster care is an essential component of the CDA’s Living in Family Environment (LIFE) programme, a process by which people open their homes to children on a temporary basis, providing them with a stable and nurturing environment which contributes to their holistic development. One of our objectives is to have 75 per cent of our children in care living in the family environment,” Dixon said.
Currently there are 800 foster parents in the system and close to 4,500 children in state care who would love the opportunity to be part of a loving family.
Remember, being a good parent is not limited to having a biological child, and once you fit the profile of being committed to raising a child or satisfy the CDA’s criteria, don’t hesitate to contact the CDA and give a child an opportunity to belong to a family.
