Don’t mix business with pleasure
WE spend the majority of your adult lives working. We also can’t help who we fall for, and this becomes an even bigger issue when work is our only social outlet. 1. Your privacy will be somewhat invaded2. Intimate problems will become office fodder3. You will be judged4. You can ruin your reputation
However, it can be dangerous to get so caught up in work, that your personal and professional lives begin to intertwine. Note that many have tried and have become lifetime partners through workplace relationships, but some who have attempted it not only had their reputations ruined, it also ruined their lives.
Here are four things to consider before you venture to the office for romance.
Some people will make it their number one priority to seek out, and even fabricate stories about you and your relationship. And once the rumors start to spread, your professional life will be affected.
When you and your partner have issues, it can affect how you perform at your tasks on your job which can result in the company being disadvantaged. This is exactly why some companies don’t support intimate relationships, as they know the catastrophic impact they can have.
If one party is dating, for example, a manager, that person will not only be scrutinized, but judged. For that person to get promoted, it will be twice as difficult as that individual will be in the spotlight.
You have to bear in mind that relationship do fail, and if the break-up happens at work, it can put a major dent in your reputation and even result in the company losing clients or customers. When a business is offering a professional service or product, customers want to see it reflected in the staff, and if the workforce is weak, this can result in clients or customers taking their businesses elsewhere.
