Is it really wise to treat your man like your best friend?
Having a relationship where you can totally be yourself and be liberated is not only healthy, but everyone deserves this. But sharing everything with your partner, some relationship experts argue, borders on being unwise, as sharing too much details can sprout doubts and entertain lingering thoughts of confusion and further push your partner away.
We went to test this theory but asking some women to express whether it is indeed wise to treat their men like their friends.
Sherene:
I appreciate the wisdom my mother passed to me before she passed away, and that was you have the right to reserve your secrets from man, but not from God. I do not share everything with my husband because even though he is loving and understanding, he is still a man and that alone tells me to draw a line. I am not talking about secrets like cheating, because I am not unfaithful, but there are things in my past that I think are none of his business. I think you must retain most of you for you regardless of your relationship.
MC:
I share everything with my man but of late I am regretting this because once we have a disagreement, I am hearing everything back, almost like a knife in my back. So I made a decision to speak to him only about the relationship and nothing else.
JB:
I think it is not smart for women to open up every door of their lives to their men. You will live to regret the day you do this. It removes the mystery of who you are and it opens up a jar of disrespect. If you are smart, shut your mouth.
SL:
Women must learn to shut their mouths. Understand that a man will listen to everything and cast judgement based on what he heard, not knowing the background to what you’re sharing. Leave your past in your past and stay current. He doesn’t need to know what your ex did to you even if it was something good.
RG:
I shared everything with man until the other night when I shared something really personal and he started accusing me of cheating. That was the last straw for me. It is best to shut up.
