King Blessed by Blessed
Space Adventures is the latest collection from six-year-old fashion designer Blessed Gilligan of King Blessed. “Space is cool,” explained Gilligan, when asked about the inspiration behind his latest showing. He said that he finds the planets intriguing and Earth his favourite because of the presence of life.
Gilligan, son of fashion designer Mamayashi and selector/producer Rory from Stone Love Movement, expressed his desire to have a children’s clothing line after watching his mother’s career during his early years.
Space Adventures, the first showing since Gilligan’s debut collection Kingston Light, features futuristic designs of astronaut suits in metallic fabrics. Velvet is also featured in a vivid blue hue that Gilligan says represents the Earth’s sky at night.
Gilligan’s creativity has been developing while travelling the world with his mother and experiencing different cultures. He describes Kingston as his favourite place on Earth, and when he’s in Jamaica, he interacts with the island’s greatest musicians while spending quality time with his father.
