We must all #EmbraceEquity
COMING out of the pandemic, the importance of gender inclusivity has never been more important than it is today, as our collective experiences over the last two years have no doubt cemented the importance of gender in the overall discussions that impact each and every one of us.
A gender equal world is what International Women’s Day (IWD) has championed for years – one free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. It’s a world that’s diverse, equitable and inclusive, a world where difference is valued and celebrated.
How can we forge women’s equality together, not only as women, but as any individual or group interested in equality? How can we collectively #EmbraceEquity?
That’s the theme for this year’s IWD – a push to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about discrimination, and above all, take action to drive gender parity.
The United Nations (UN) has, in the meantime, listed DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality as its own theme, recognising and celebrating the women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education.
For the UN, IWD is about exploring the impact of the digital gender gap on widening economic and social inequalities, and spotlighting the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in digital spaces and addressing online and ICT-facilitated gender-based violence.
For All Woman, today we highlight some of these women – as we understand that one of the most impactful ways we can mark IWD is by rallying women together who have been helping to shape a world of positivity, visibility and inclusivity not only for themselves, but for other women and girls.
The women were asked, “How have you been using your own sphere of influence, and are rising to the challenge to create a space for your voice, as well as that of other women and girls, to be heard?”
Their remarkable points of view are highlighted today.
Today, we know that IWD is for everyone – every woman, girl, man, boy and group everywhere. It’s about inclusion, and celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
We charge you to continue the call to action for accelerating women’s equality, in line with the tenets of IWD as it started well over a century ago, to celebrate the women forging change, elevate the visibility of women, build workplaces where women thrive, improve equality for women in all areas, forge women’s empowerment worldwide, empower women’s choices, and applaud equality for women in all spheres.
