Shor ’nuff!
The 2022 karting champion Brandon Shor picked up right where he left off in the opening round of the Jamaica Karting Association’s 2023 season on Sunday, March 26, at the Palisadoes International Raceway, Kingston.
Shor took home the Abe Ziadie Trophy, the sport’s highest honour last year after dominating his class and collecting the most points of any other karter. The young karter had a trifecta on the day, claiming all three race victories in Rotax Mini Max, including an impressive reverse grid win for the third and final race, where he fought his way through the traffic to the podium’s top step in the class.
He now leads Mini Max with 41.5 points over, Paul Patterson in second with 28.5 points, and David Brown in third with 27.5 points.
In Comer 50 for beginners, Benjamin Greene was the top driver ending the day with 42.5 points, ahead of Audley Thompson and Jaxon James, who had 30.5 and 26.5 points, respectively.
Rotax Micro Max, Shor’s former class, has been left to his now former rival Khai Beecher. Beecher took advantage, moving to the top of Micro Max on 33 points. Kaidon Van WykdeVries was second gaining 29 points. Isabelle Fong-Yee finished third with 24 points.
Other class winners were Luke Spencer in Rotax Junior, Brandon Finzi-Smith in Rotax Senior, and Michael Paisley in Super Rotax.
