It was indeed Clash of the Titans at Dover Raceway, St Ann, on Sunday, July 3, for the second race meet in the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC) 2022 championship season.

“The meet was good. It was supposed to be kept at JamWest,” Junior Barnes, JRDC chairman, told the Jamaica Observer‘s weekly Auto magazine.

More importantly for Barnes was the level of attendance on what was a non-traditional date for Dover race meets. The club would usually host race events on holiday weekends to take advantage of the crowd.

“The meet was a lesson learnt that the Dover brand is still strong and that we can move to non-traditional event dates with strong attendance numbers. We cannot compete with the Kite Festival and these holiday weekend parties, so we’ve moved from Independence Day in the first weekend in August to the 14th and we have to just build on these dates,” Barnes explained.

Those in attendance saw the predicted fight between the Radical army, the four top racers in Thundersport class 2 (TS2), Kyle Gregg, Senna Summerbell, William Myers and Collin Daley Jr. Twenty-year-old Summerbell only made his debut in the class at the last meet and instantly made waves. He continued on that path, not only completing a clean sweep of the podium across the TS2 three races, but taking down the previous lap record held by Gregg.

“The feeling of breaking the track record was one of the most amazing feelings ever. This is a record that in the past my grandfather and father have held and to get it back in the Summerbell name is an awesome feeling,” said Summerbell.

Summerbell lowered Gregg’s 1:15.767 lap record, set in 2019, to 1:15.433 at the end of the day. The remaining positions circulated between the other three. In Modified Production class 4, it was two wins for Allan Gordon, versus one for Douglas Gore, who has moved out of TS2. Sara Misir dominated MP3 as did Ricardo Scott in MP1. Demar Lee was the top dog in MP2 winning twice over rival Tommi Gore. David Delapehna took all three of his Improved Production class 3 (IP3) races. Vijae Mitchell was able to break Marvin Hoilett’s hold on the podium in IP2. In IP1, Antonio Rizza, Akello Morgan and Marlon Robinson shared a win each. Super Street Turbo class saw Andrew Massias have two race wins over Ty Ventura with one. Robert Murray was the lone winner in Super Street Naturally Aspirated. For the motorcycle riders Daniel Davidson had two wins in Motorcycle class A to the single victory of Jason Ricketts. Michael Neil took the three MCB races.
