Big smiles and joyful eyes described the young cancer survivors at the Bustamante Hospital for Children (BHC) during the Flow Foundation’s annual treat in observance of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month on Friday, September 29.

More than 100 children between nine months and 12 years-old, who had either recovered or were undergoing treatment, enjoyed games, gifts and stories read by Flow employee volunteers.

The activities also featured a pop-up photo booth and an appearance by Sonic, the Hedgehog mascot which was a huge hit with the children.

With the widest of grins on his face, an excited Lamar Johnson said, “I had so much fun. I love Sonic! I loved the photo booth. I loved my gift. I loved everything!”

Flow’s Communications Director and Executive Director of the Flow Foundation, Kayon Mitchell, shared that “This particular initiative is very dear to our Flow family and we look forward to it each year. These children have had to overcome so many challenges in their young lives at a time when they should be enjoying the joy of childhood. Their will to beat this disease is an inspiration and each year, this activity allows us to celebrate their courage and strength.”

Each year, the Flow Foundation observes Childhood Awareness Month with an injection of $1 million into its Paediatric Cancer Fund at the BHC, which supports the care of children battling the disease. The Foundation and its employee volunteers also take the opportunity to treat the children to a day of fun and games.
