Issue resolved with courier service

Dear Claudienne,

I have a dispute with ShipWize Logistics as it relates to a $14,389.06 shipping charge incurred on a $15.47 package. I ordered from Shein, a global China website known for its fast fashion and unbelievably low-priced items. In typical Shein fashion, they were having a massive sale, where items could be purchased for as low as US$0.01. YES! That’s right, items as low as US$0.01.

On March 16,2023, I purchased 44 items from Shein Fashion that totalled US $15.47. The highest cost of an item in the package was US$5.97 and the lowest being US$0.20. The total weight of the package was 9 lbs.

After ShipWize sent me the invoice for the Shein Fashion package that was delivered to their warehouse in Florida, on March 23, I realised that the US $15.47 value of the package from Shein Fashion was incorrectly stated at a value of US$62.59 on the invoice.

The incorrect valuation of my package has resulted in the company informing me that I would have to pay shipping costs of $14,389.06 for the package.

When I went to the ShipWize Manor Park office to point out the error I was told that the Jamaica Customs Agency had valued the package at US$62.59.

I am confused and frustrated and would appreciate your help in this matter.

ED

Dear ED,

On March 28, 2023 Tell Claudienne contacted ShipWize about your concerns and on Saturday April 1, 2023, you telephoned and informed Tell Claudienne that the issue had been resolved. An e-mail from you to the column on April 4 stated the following:

“While my issue was ‘resolved’ at ShipWize, they are yet to provide me with a Customs Declaration showing where customs charges were levied on my package. Before, the total for the package was $14,389.06, after days of back and forth, I only paid $5,372 — only paying for the freight. Again, I must say thank you. “

ShipWize informed Tell Claudienne that due to a privacy clause in your contract with the company, details about the shipment could not be disclosed to the column. However, ShipWize promised to contact and provide you with the customs information and we note that they have spoken to you.

We wish you all the best.

Have a problem with a store, utility, a company? Telephone 876-936-9436 or Cell # 876-484-1349 or write to: Tell Claudienne c/o Sunday Finance, Jamaica Observer, 40-42 1/2 Beechwood Avenue, Kingston 5; or e-mail:edwardsc@jamaicaobserver.com. Please include a contact phone number.
