Ten biggest companies on JSE in 2023

As we reflect on the year 2023, we’ll be analysing the 10 largest companies on the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) by market capitalisation.

1) Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited (SJ): market capitalisation $186.49 billion; closing price $47.75; 11.08 per cent weighting of entire Main Market valued at $1.68 trillion. SJ is a financial services provider primarily involved in insurance, banking, investments, and other related services. 2022 Position: 1

Shares outstanding: 3,905,634,918

52-week range: $40.00 – $59.42

1-year performance: –16.10 per cent

Dividend yield: 2.57 per cent

Pan Jamaica Group returned to the top 10 largest companies following March 2020.

2) Massy Holdings Limited: market capitalisation $178.14 billion; closing price $90.00; 10.59 per cent weighting of entire Main Market. Massy is a Trinidad-based conglomerate with portfolios in integrates retail, gas products, motors and machines. 2022 Position: 3

Shares outstanding: 1,979,384,540

52-week range: $77.33 – $105.00

Year to date performance: +12.54 per cent

Dividend yield: 3.61 per cent

3) NCB Financial Group Limited (NCBFG): market capitalisation $168.35 billion; closing price $66.18; 10.00 per cent weighting of entire Main Market. NCBFG is a financial services group operating in insurance, banking, and wealth management across the Caribbean. 2022 Position: 2

Shares outstanding: 2,543,762,828

52-week range: $55.00 – $80.00

1-year performance: –17.19 per cent

Dividend yield: 0.76 per cent

4) Scotia Group Jamaica Limited (SGJ): market capitalisation $119.33 billion; closing price $38.35; 7.09 per cent weighting of entire Main Market. SGJ is a financial services group involved in banking, wealth management, and insurance. 2022 Position: 6

5) Barita Investments Limited (BIL): market capitalisation $90.37 billion; closing price $74.05; 5.37 per cent weighting of entire Main Market. BIL is a licensed securities dealer and primary dealer for the Bank of Jamaica. 2022 Position: 5

7) Wisynco Group Limited (WISYNCO): market capitalisation $80.87 billion; closing price $21.50; 4.81 per cent weighting of entire Main Market. Wisynco is a major distributor and manufacturer in the fast-moving consumer goods space. 2022 Position: 9

8) GraceKennedy Limited (GK): market capitalisation: $79.04 billion; closing price $79.42; 4.70 per cent weighting of entire Main Market. GK is a multinational conglomerate focused on financial services and food trading. 2022 Position: 7

9) Pan Jamaica Group Limited (PJAM): market capitalisation $78.36 billion, closing price $48.14, 4.66 per cent weighting of entire Main Market. PJAM is a holding company with private equity, real estate and the former operating assets of Jamaica Producers Group. 2022 Position: 11

10) Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL): market capitalisation $71.47 billion; closing price $27.10; 4.25 per cent weighting of entire Main Market. SVL is a management company with subsidiaries in the micro-financing, betting, gaming and lottery operations segments. 2022 Position: 8
