Champs ticket sales to go toward helping Western schools recover from Hurricane Melissa
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) president Keith Wellington says proceeds from ticket sales at the ISSA GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships will go toward schools in western Jamaica affected by Hurricane Melissa.
Wellington made the announcement at the “Champs” media launch on Wednesday at the National Arena in Kingston.
With the 100m finals set for Wednesday, March 25, the ISSA boss says the funds received from the sale of 10,000 bleacher tickets at the National Stadium will be donated.
Wellington credited the schools in the west for committing to the championships despite their preparations being severely hampered by Hurricane Melissa, which ravaged the island in October 2025.
Also at the launch, Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association president Garth Gayle says he’s looking forward to strong performances as they gear up for next month’s Carifta Games and this summer’s World Under-20 Championships in Eugene.
The 115th staging of “Champs” is set for March 24-28 with Kingston College and Hydel High looking to defend their boys’ and girls’ titles.
